Alumni UK · Rivers State Chapter
A chapter for graduates of UK universities living and working across Rivers State. We meet, we bring that expertise together, and we put it to work on the questions that matter in the Niger Delta.

Many Nigerians have studied in the United Kingdom and come home, and a good number of them are here in Rivers State: in energy and engineering, law, medicine, education, the environment, the creative sector, the civil service and business. Individually they are well connected. Collectively, they had nowhere in particular to meet.
The Alumni UK Rivers State Chapter exists to change that. We bring UK alumni in the state into one room, in person and online, and give that expertise something useful to do. The chapter is part of Alumni UK, the British Council's global network for graduates of UK institutions.
A degree earned abroad is worth most when it is put to work at home.

The chapter is new, and it is being shaped by its members. Everything we do comes back to three questions:

UK alumni in Port Harcourt met for an evening of learning, networking and cocktails at Landmark Hotels in July 2025, hosted by the British Council as part of the Alumni UK programme: a panel, plenty of conversation, and a first sense of how many of us there are in the city.

The chapter's Community Sector Spotlight Series connects UK alumni with regional insight, expert perspectives and practical opportunities: each session explores a sector that matters here, to inspire action and collaboration on solutions.
In August 2026 the series looked at Mangroves, Memory and the Future: Climate, Culture and Innovation in the Niger Delta, in conversation with Emeritus Professor Winston I. Bell-Gam and Professor Frank Ugiomoh, Professor of History of Art and Theory. It ran in person at the British Council and online, so alumni outside the state could take part.
Alumni UK Rivers State Symposium 2026: Stronger Community, Greater Impact: Shaping the Future of Alumni UK Rivers State.
A day to reconnect, learn from one another and shape what the chapter does next. The symposium is interactive rather than presentation-heavy, with a deliberate balance between learning and time to meet people.

We work with partners rather than alone. The mangroves spotlight was delivered alongside Art in the Garden City and the Niger Delta Climate and Tech Series, which brought cultural and technical perspectives to the same table, and the chapter works closely with the British Council in Nigeria.
Places are limited by the room, so registration is required, and you will be sent a ticket with a QR code to show at the door. To hear when the next event opens, join the mailing list.
